Choir

Students participating in choir perform music of various cultures, languages, genres, and time periods. Students learn proper singing technique, vocal health and anatomy, music vocabulary, and basic music theory. Each ensemble focuses on singing unison, two-, and three-part harmonies, but solo opportunities may also be available. Singers also explore the story behind the text and the history of pieces being prepared.

Singers in sixth and seventh grade perform in three concerts throughout the year, each at Wainwright Middle School. Eighth-grade singers perform at two “home” concerts as well as represent Wainwright Middle School at the Southside Choral Festival held in October at McCutcheon High School.

In addition to the Wainwright Middle School choral performances, individual singers may also choose to participate in the ISSMA Solo & Ensemble Contest and/or Circle the State with Song.
